Is It Possible to Have a Cpanel Without WHM Reseller Hosting Plan?

When people buy web space, they usually have very specific ideas about how they want to run that web space. People who have some form of experience with running web space via their Windows machines especially would most likely have had experience running Cpanel with WHM. WHM, or WebHost Manager, is a web-based graphical interface tool used by webmasters to manipulate the specific settings of their allocated web space. With a WHM reseller hosting account, the webmaster of a small site - or a reseller - can assign security levels to other sub-users, who will have access to the same web space.

WHM reseller hosting is a big ticket especially for individuals or institutions that aspire to resell web space. WHM is very layman-friendly and is rather indispensable especially for first-time web space allocators. The WHM software is often mistaken for Cpanel, which often comes bundled with it when one buys web space.

Since CPanel and WHM are so often used together, and are quite often interdependent, people have taken to using them interchangeably. But there is a huge difference between them. CPanel is the software designed for use exclusively by web hosting companies. Individual buyers often have to pay a little extra for cpanel access, when they buy web space - however, non-profit organizations such as foundations and schools may request for a cpanel license at no charge. The CPanel is used to manipulate domains and subdomains in a server.

On the other hand, WHM is the software used to assign domains and subdomains to different webmasters. Different users in a single server would usually require different domains, and therefore it stands to reason that WHM and Cpanel are bundled into a single web hosting package. Resellers who want to offer Cpanel access to their clients often have the rationale that they want their clients to change the settings on the different domains that they own - but not set other users to handle those domains.

The question, one would suppose is not, "Is it possible to have a Cpanel Without WHM Reseller Hosting Plan?" In fact, it's really: "Why would you want a Cpanel without WHM?" in the first place. But these are reasons that are known only to the reseller or the web host who offers different types of web packages. As a buyer, you would do well to ask about these reasons before laying your money down.
